That’s why we’ve created this Shopify Store Setup Series: a step-by-step guide covering everything from creating your account to launching your professional store. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your existing setup, this guide makes the process simple, structured, and effective.

1. Sign Up on Shopify

Ready to start your online store?

  1. Go to Shopify.com and click Start Free Trial.
  2. Choose the sign-up method that works best for you email, Google, or Apple ID.
  3. Complete verification (if signing up via Gmail).
  4. Answer a few quick setup questions.

You’re now inside your Shopify dashboard!

2. Set Your Store Details

Make your store official by setting up the basics.

  1. Go to Settings → Store Details.
  2. Enter your store name and email address, then click Save.
  3. Add your billing address, home address, pin code, and other required info.
  4. Select your country, currency, and time zone.

Your store details are now configured correctly.

3. Choose a Theme

Make your store visually appealing and professional.

  1. Navigate to Online Store → Themes.
  2. Browse free or paid themes that suit your business.
  3. Click Apply on your chosen theme.
  4. Click Customize to adjust logos, banners, colors, and fonts.

4. Add Products

Add your first product to start selling.

  1. Go to Products → Add Product.
  2. Enter your product title, description, images, and price.
  3. Add stock quantity, SKU, and product variants (size, color, etc.).
  4. Optimize the title and description for SEO.

5. Create Collections

Organize your products to improve customer shopping experience.

  1. Go to Products → Collections → Create Collection.
  2. Add a title like ‘Men’s Shirts’, ‘New Arrivals’, or ‘Best Sellers’.
  3. Add an image to make your collection attractive.
  4. Choose Collection Type:
    • Manual: Add products yourself
    • Automated: Set rules (e.g., tags like ‘new’)
  5. Click Save.

6. Set Up Navigation Menus

Make your store easy to explore.

  1. Go to Shopify Dashboard → Content → Menu.
  2. Edit two main menus:
    • Main Menu: Add links like Home, Shop, About Us, Contact Us
    • Footer Menu: Add links like Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, Terms & Conditions
  3. Click Save.

7. Add Pages

Build customer trust by adding essential pages.

  1. Go to Online Store → Pages → Add Page.
  2. Create pages like About Us, Contact Us, FAQs, Return Policy.
  3. Add clear and friendly content.
  4. Link these pages in your navigation menus.

Customers now have access to all important information.

8. Configure Payment Gateway

Set up how you’ll get paid.

  1. Go to Settings → Payments.
  2. Choose a payment provider: Shopify Payments, PayPal, Stripe, or local gateways (Razorpay, PayU, etc.).
  3. Enter bank/payout details.

Your store can now accept payments safely.

9. Set Up Shipping

Configure shipping for your products.

  1. Go to Settings → Shipping and Delivery → General Shipping Rates → Add Rate.
  2. Choose country/region, rate name, price, and optional conditions (weight, total price).
  3. Click Save.

Your store is ready to ship worldwide!

10. Set Up Taxes

Ensure your store is tax compliant.

  1. Go to Settings → Taxes and Duties.
  2. Select your country or region. Shopify applies default tax rules.
  3. Enable automatic tax calculation or set custom tax rates.
  4. Review tax on shipping and register a tax ID if required.
  5. Click Save.

11. Set Up Domain

Use a custom domain for professionalism.

  1. Go to Settings → Domains.
  2. Options:
    • Buy a new domain via Shopify (e.g., www.yourstore.com)
    • Connect an existing domain from GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.
  3. Set it as Primary Domain.

  1. Go to Settings → Policies.

  4. Click Save and link pages in the footer menu.

14. Test Your Store

Ensure everything works perfectly before launch.

  1. Click Preview to check all pages (homepage, product pages, checkout).
  2. Test on desktop and mobile.
  3. Place a test order using Shopify’s Bogus Gateway.
  4. Verify payment, confirmation emails, and shipping.

15. Launch Your Store

Go live and start selling!

  1. Remove password protection: Online Store → Preferences → Password Protection → Uncheck Enable password → Save
  2. Promote your launch:
    • Social media posts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
    • Email campaigns (Klaviyo, Omnisend)
    • Paid ads (Meta, Google, TikTok)
